From User to Contributor: Finding Your Place in the PostgreSQL Ecosystem
Tuesday, April 21 at 14:40–15:25
Many PostgreSQL users want to contribute to the project but don’t know where to begin, or assume that contribution only means writing core database code. This talk shares a realistic journey of moving from being a PostgreSQL user to becoming an active contributor. Drawing from personal experience, it explores practical entry points such as writing and reviewing documentation, reporting bugs, testing features, sharing knowledge through articles and talks, and engaging with the PostgreSQL community. The session also highlights contribution paths taken by well-known PostgreSQL contributors, showing that there is no single or “correct” way to get involved. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how the PostgreSQL project works, what kinds of contributions matter, and how small, consistent efforts can grow into meaningful long-term participation.
