Achieving Reliable Application Transactions in Multi-Region PostgreSQL: Real-World Challenges and Solutions

Tuesday, April 21 at 09:10–09:55
Room: Saal B Level: Advanced

Global businesses require multi-region databases to achieve two critical goals: boosting application resiliency and minimizing latency for users across different geographies. Yet, the dynamic nature of data introduces significant hurdles in designing these systems—particularly in coordinating updates across distributed regions where the level of consistency, whether strong or eventual, deeply impacts user experience and data correctness. We’ll also explore how concurrency control models, such as optimistic or pessimistic approaches, influence transaction coherency in high-throughput, distributed environments. Additionally, idempotent transaction patterns will be discussed to ensure reliable retries and fault tolerance in network-partitioned systems. This session will remain vendor agnostic, focusing purely on architectural principles and design best practices applicable across platforms.
