Chris Ellis

I still remember the first PGConf EU I went to, back in 2010. The excitement of being able to put faces to email addresses. Being inspired by the range of talks, to learn more about PostgreSQL, driving me to use it more and more.

I've always enjoyed that PostgreSQL events are organised by the community for the community, they feel organic and personal, rather than corporate. Making me feel part of the community, part of a whole working for a bigger ideal.

My involvement has never been for business reasons, but to be part of a free and open source community that I'm passionate about. Being part of a community of like minded people that resonate with my ideals. The desire to collaborate for the greater good and the ability to ensure that people following me have access to learn and innovate by using free and open source software. Like I was able to.

I'm proud to have been able to contribute back by speaking at many PostgreSQL events over the last decade. It's been a fulfilling way to share the knowledge I gained from others. To inspire other people to use PostgreSQL more or to get them more involved.

As well as playing a part, both directly and indirectly, in helping organise many events: PGConf EU, PGDay UK, PGDay Lowlands, PostgreSQL London Meetup and our FOSDEM booth. I'm honoured to have been recognised as a PostgreSQL Significant Contributor for my community efforts, this was never a desire and was an unexpected accolade.

I want to continue playing my small part in ensuring the future of PostgreSQL as a free and open project, for everyone.

As a board member, I want to continue to make our PGEU events the best that they can be. To ensure that we continue to grow our community, widen the appeal and inclusivity of our events. To enrich the PostgreSQL community as a whole.

I'm keen to improve how the PGEU board interacts with the community, pushing for improvements in interacting and engaging with PGEU members. Keeping them updated more frequently with what is happening. As well as fostering more direct involvement with key activities.

I'd also like to play a part in improving our marketing of PGEU and our events, to be able to grow our advocacy efforts. Especially in encouraging better engagement with grass-roots groups and activities.
