Martins Otun

Martins is the Founder and Principal Scientist of Algonix AI, a Scotland-based company building AI systems for healthcare and scientific discovery.

His main project, Biologix, is an agentic platform that searches for polymers to help protein medicines such as insulin stay stable without refrigeration. PostgreSQL sits at its core as the system of record, keeping track of every simulation campaign, candidate polymer and screening decision.

Having moved between countries and between disciplines, Martins knows how much it matters when a community makes newcomers feel welcome. He joined the Diversity Committee to help more people from unconventional backgrounds find their place in the Postgres community. He is particularly keen to reach scientists, researchers and career changers who rely on databases every day but don't yet see themselves as part of the Postgres world. He also wants to make the diversity pages a genuinely useful starting point for newcomers. Having benefited from the community's openness himself, he wants to give something back and help keep PostgreSQL welcoming for the next generation of contributors.
